RFXLAnim History

Development milestones

  1. The format combined RFXL frames, delta rectangles and shared palettes on a persistent canvas.
  2. Sparse and motion-compensated blocks reduced repeated image data.
  3. Whole-track audio resampling before frame splitting preserved consistent frame boundaries.
  4. Crappy added an eight-colour palette target; direct indexed blits and compact frame tables reduced overhead.
  5. Release hardening added strict payload, dimension and audio-metadata checks.
  6. C and JavaScript ports added full-frame, indexed, rectangle and motion decoding, RFXZ compression, frame-aligned RAU preservation and local GIF exchange. The port encoder stores full RFXL frames.

These milestones summarize the reference module's documented development. This website describes generation 26 only.
