Development milestones
- Block trees, frame references and RGB/YCoCg coding established the video core.
- Motion searches and indexed roots improved access and encoding effort.
- Five quality profiles introduced explicit spatial, chroma and temporal reductions.
- Continuous audio interleaving reused RAU instead of a separate audio codec.
- Generation 26 added strict geometry and metadata validation and group-wise PMFZ streaming through the same frame decoder.
- C and JavaScript ports added all block-tree modes, PMFZ group decoding and continuous RAU audio. Browser exchange added MP4 and independent WAV export. The port encoder uses spatial RGB residual blocks.
These milestones summarize the reference module's documented development. This website describes generation 26 only.
